11. Giant Isopod
The giant isopod is not a gigantic bug even though it might look like one. It is a crustacean and lives in the deep sea, preferably in mud. They can only be found in the Pacific Ocean, normally off the coast of Japan and the South China Sea. The ones that are usually caught are about 14 inches long but one was found in 2010, that was 2.5 feet long. Scientists aren’t sure why they get so big!!

10. Vultures
Have you ever been driving when you see something dead on the side of the road? Nine times out of ten you will see another animal hovering close by as well. The Vulture. They are scavengers and because of their creepy appearance and disgusting habit of eating carrion, they are no one’s favorite animal.

9. Sea pig
These little alien looking creatures of the sea are actually sea cucumbers. The sea pig is only about 2 to 6 inches long, but gets its name from being pink and chubby and it looks like its gobbling its way along the seafloor. They have tubular feet that help them to get around and may have a sensory function.

8. Goliath Birdeater
The Goliath birdeater is the largest tarantula in the world! This gigantic creepy crawly can weigh about as much as a puppy and be the size of a dinner plate. It was named when scientists came across one eating a hummingbird. However, their food source is mainly small invertebrates such as frogs, lizards, and earthworms.

7. Gharial
Gharials are often mistaken for crocodiles. They are native to the northern part of India and are most well-known for their long, skinny snout, and males will develop a knob at the end. Males are much larger than females and can reach up to 21 feet long. They are also considered some of the heaviest reptiles on Earth, sometimes weighing up to 1,500 pounds. (But don’t worry, that’s still not more than a saltwater crocodile).

6. Manta Ray
Manta Rays are enormous sea creatures and a lot of people are intimidated by them. Mantas can grow from 5.5 meters ( 18 ft) to 7 meters (23 ft) wide. The Giant Manta Ray can have a wingspan of up to 8.8 meters (29 feet)!!

5. Thorny Devil
The thorny devil is a lizard native to Australia. It is also known as “the thorny dragon” or the “mountain devil”. You might not think it’s that scary but it is covered in thorns and its scientific name, Moloch horridus was named after an evil god in John Milton’s Paradise Lost who would cover himself with the blood of human sacrifice. I know, really intense, right?

4. Naked mole rat
The naked mole rat is another animal that has a name that is deceiving. They are not rats or moles and they aren’t completely naked if you want to get technical. They have some hair between their toes and sensory whiskers on their faces and tails. Native to eastern Africa, you have to admit these guys are weird.

3. Aye-aye Lemur
This little creature is found in Madagascar. It is an animal that natives believe you see right before a death and is a bad omen. I mean the poor thing does look a little demonic.
It has a long thin, alien-like middle finger and teeth that grow forever like a rodent. It uses its middle finger to tap on trees to find grubs and then pull them out.

2. Wrinkle-faced bat
Also known as centurio senex, the wrinkle-faced bat is found in the tropics of Central America. Their faces consist of multiple folds of skin that make them look like wrinkled old men, and really scary. These folds of skin hold scent glands and males have more, so probably for them, the more wrinkles the better to find a mate!

1. Basking sharks
Let’s face it, basking sharks look a little scary. Their gaping open mouths can be up to 1 meter wide and are quite intimidating.
Basking sharks are the second largest sharks in the ocean, (after the whale shark). They grow to be around 20 to 26 feet long, however, some have been found reaching up to 33 feet in length!!

10. Biosphere Environmental Museum, Montreal
Built as the United States’ pavilion for the 1967 World Expo in Montreal, Canada, the Biosphere was built to impress!! It was a massive geodesic dome designed by architect Buckminster Fuller. It looks like the one at Epcot, doesn't it!?

9. Sydney Opera House, Australia
In 1957, Danish Architect Jørn Utzon won an international competition to design a new theatre complex in Sydney. Construction began in 1959 on Bennelong Point in Sydney Harbor. Even today, the building is considered one of the most famous and most photographed buildings in the world. The opera house is actually a collection of multiple performing spaces, including the Concert Hall, the Joan Sutherland Theatre, the Drama Theatre, a playhouse, a drama studio and a recording studio.

8. The Wave, Denmark
In 2009, the little Danish town of Vejle gained an architectural marvel, courtesy of Henning Larsen Architects. Inspired in part by the Sydney Opera House, the Wave is a luxury apartment enclosing roughly 150,000 square feet of space. The town of Vejle is in a valley, and the building’s form mimics both the hills around the town and the waves on the water. It sits on the waterfront promenade of the Skyttehusbugten Bay in the Vejle Inlet, right next to a marina.

7. The Dancing House, Prague
Designed by Croatian-Czech Vlado Milunic and Canadian-American Frank Gehry, it was built between 1992 to 1996.
The Dancing House was – and in some quarters still is – because it is such a dramatic departure from the gothic and baroque architecture of the rest of the city. The building is unconventional, to say the least.

6. The Gherkin, London
Speaking of building that stand out, In the heart of London’s financial district, a striking contemporary tower rises over 590 feet into the air. This is 30 St. Mary Axe, better known as the Gherkin. (Although that’s not necessarily their favorite nickname!)

5. Birds Nest Stadium, Beijing, China
Officially named the Beijing National Stadium, the Birds Nest Stadium was built for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. It was designed jointly by architectural firm Herzog and de Meuron, architect Stefan Marbach, Chinese artist Ai Weiwei, and CADG (Central Asia Development Group)’s chief architect, Li Xinggang. The stadium cost nearly $428 million to complete using 121,000 tons of steel.

4. Bayterek Tower, Kazakhstan
Located in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, the Bayterek Tower is a monument and observation tower that’s become a hit with tourists for its distinctive style. The tower is meant to symbolize an old Kazakh folktale about a magical bird that had laid an egg in the crevice between two branches of a poplar tree. The bird was the bird of happiness and the tree was the tree of life.

3. Guggenheim Museum, New York
The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, called the Guggenheim for short, is an art museum located in Manhattan, New York. Established by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation in 1939, it was originally called the Museum of Non-Objective Painting, and it celebrated – and continues to celebrate – impressionist, post-impressionist and modern art. It was renamed after its founder when Mr. Guggenheim passed away in 1952.

2. The Shard, London
The Shard is a skyscraper in Southwark, London, England. It’s the tallest building in the United Kingdom, standing 1,016 feet high. It was designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano and was built between 2009 and 2012. The View from the Shard, a privately-operated, open-air observation deck, opened in 2013.

The Petronas Twin Towers are located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and until 2004, they were the tallest buildings in the world. Even today, they are the tallest twin towers in existence.

10. Draupnir
Draupnir is a legendary gold ring that comes from Norse mythology. Imbued with magical powers, it was forged by the dwarfs Eitri and Brokk who were known for making powerful objects. Brokk stood before the gods in Asgard and presented the ring to Odin as proof of their abilities!!

6. New Swabia
One of the most famous conspiracy theories surrounding Antarctica deals with the Nazis. During the Second World War, Adolf you-know-who chartered many expeditions to Antarctica claiming that it was for scientific research. Naturally, by having such a long track record of being a stand-up citizen of the earth, no one believed him.

5. Underground Mountains
In 1958 the Soviets were off on a mapping expedition to study Antarctica. In order to test the thickness of the ice, they would detonate explosives every 100 miles.
Suddenly, the scientists found themselves standing on top of a very thin sheet of ice. As they continued to inspect the ice below them they soon realized they were standing above a subglacial mountain range.
